Physical therapists have special training in ways to help patients with orthopedic problems. They are trained to manipulate joints and soft tissues- the muscles, ligaments, and tendons- in order to improve mobility and decrease pain. They also may use techniques such as laser, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat, and ice to aid in the healing process.

In addition, their treatment methods are used for patients whose problems have a neurological basis, such as those with Parkinson’s disease, or those who have suffered a stroke or a brain injury.
